For almost two years, there has been complete silence regarding the Meta Quest version of GTA: San Andreas, and even at Meta Connect 2023, there were no updates provided.
Back on October 28, 2021, during Meta Connect, Mark Zuckerberg announced the release of the VR port of the beloved video game. To watch the announcement, you can play the YouTube video below.
Since then, not a single word has been mentioned about the progress or development of this game, which is quite unusual for a project of this magnitude.
Instead of creating hype around GTA: San Andreas VR and Meta Quest 3, Meta chose to remain silent during Meta Connect 2023 and showcased other games and apps like Asgard’s Wrath 2, Assassin’s Creed Nexus, and various mixed reality titles.
US outlets UploadVR and Road to VR reached out to Meta for a statement, but the only response they received were “No comment” and “We don’t have any updates to share on GTA: San Andreas.”
The Status of GTA: San Andreas VR
Meta has tightly guarded the status of the project, leaving fans speculating whether GTA: San Andreas VR is still in development or if it has been silently canceled, similar to another major title, Splinter Cell VR.

Hopes are raised due to the recent announcement that another long-awaited game, Assassin’s Creed Nexus, will finally be released in November. This VR game was initially announced alongside Splinter Cell VR in the fall of 2020.
While it’s possible that GTA: San Andreas VR may take a bit longer to release, there is a glimmer of hope that it might become an exclusive title for Meta Quest 3 next year. Projects of this magnitude often require several years to develop. However, when it was initially announced two years ago, Meta mentioned that they had been working for years to bring it to Quest.
We can only hold onto hope and keep an eye out for any news that may come during the next Meta Quest Gaming Showcase. Typically held in the first half of each year, the 2024 edition of the event has not yet been announced.
