How to Obtain the Cursemark of Death in Elden Ring: A Comprehensive Guide
The Cursemark of Death is a crucial item for players aiming to achieve the coveted Duskborn Ending in Elden Ring. However, obtaining this item is no easy task, as it involves completing Ranni’s questline, which entails defeating challenging bosses and navigating treacherous locations.
The Cursemark of Death can be found atop the Divine Tower of Liurnia, located east of the Artist’s Shack. To reach the top of the tower, players must acquire the Carian Inverted Statue, which is only obtainable through Ranni’s questline.
Updated August 3rd, 2023: The Cursemark Of Death is an essential key item for players seeking to fully complete Elden Ring and unlock all possible endings. Obtaining this item can be confusing, as it requires obtaining the Carian Inverted Statue and traversing an upside-down location. To assist players in acquiring the Cursemark of Death, we have updated this guide to include a helpful video.
How to Obtain the Carian Inverted Statue
To begin the questline, players must first reach Renna’s Rise, located past Caria Manor in Liurnia. This requires defeating the boss Royal Knight Loretta.
Once Renna’s Rise is accessible, speak with Ranni to initiate her questline. Players may choose to speak with Blaidd at Siofra River, but it is possible to skip this part and go directly to Radahn (although some lore and character interactions will be missed).
However, it is mandatory to fight and defeat Starscourge Radahn. Once this formidable foe is vanquished, a new area will open up in Limgrave. A crater will appear west of Fort Haight, leading down to Nokron.
Within Nokron, players must locate the Fingerslaying Blade. To reach it, they must overcome the Mimic Tear Boss. The Fingerslaying Blade can be found in a large chest north of the Night’s Sacred Ground Site of Grace, but caution must be exercised due to the presence of numerous Mimic Tears in the area.
After acquiring the Fingerslaying Blade, return it to Ranni at Renna’s Rise. As a reward, Ranni will grant the player the Carian Inverted Statue. While her quest is not yet complete, obtaining the Cursemark of Death becomes possible with the Carian Inverted Statue in hand.
What To Do With The Cursemark of Death
With the Carian Inverted Statue in their possession, players can ascend the Divine Tower of Liurnia and discover Ranni’s discarded body along with the Cursemark of Death. However, this item serves no purpose unless players proceed with Fia’s questline.
To embark on Fia’s questline, players must interact with her multiple times at Roundtable Hold and allow her to embrace them. Eventually, she will offer the dialogue option, “May I ask a favor?”
Choosing this option is crucial for progressing her quest, and Fia will provide players with a Weathered Dagger, asking that it be returned to its owner. Next, speak to D and return the dagger to him. Upon revisiting Roundtable Hold, players will discover that Fia has killed D. Engage in conversation with her, after which she will depart from the area.
To meet Fia once again and utilize the Cursemark of Death, players must travel to the Deeproot Depths beneath the Erdtree. This requires defeating the two Valiant Gargoyles in the Siofra Aqueduct and riding a coffin. Within the Deeproot Depths, Fia can be found to the north of the Across the Roots Site of Grace.
Players must then vanquish Fia’s champions, who will engage in consecutive battles as NPC invaders, totaling five enemies in all. Once these champions are defeated, approach Fia and choose the option, “No, I want to be held.” During this embrace, Fia will mention that she seeks the Cursemark of Death to aid in resurrecting Godwyn.
By embracing Fia once more, players can offer her the Cursemark. Engage in conversation to exhaust her dialogue, and eventually, she will fall asleep, allowing players to interact with her and enter the Deathbed Dream.
Within the Deathbed Dream, players must face the final boss of Fia’s questline, Lichdragon Fortissax. Upon defeating this formidable foe, players can acquire the Mending Rune of Death from Fia’s body. This item can be used towards the end of the game to unlock the Duskborn Ending.
Elden Ring is available now on PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, and Xbox One and Series X|S.
