EA Sports FC 24 Retains Top Spot on UK Game Chart as New Releases Debut Strongly
The loss of the FIFA license hasn’t dampened EA’s success, as their latest release, EA Sports FC 24, continues to dominate the UK game chart. In its second week on the market, the game experienced a standard 48% drop in sales, which is typical for a highly anticipated title. The real question now is whether this year’s installment of the long-running franchise will have the same longevity as its predecessor.
New Releases Make a Splash
Meanwhile, other new releases have also made an impressive impact on the chart. Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed: Mirage debuted at number 2, showcasing the ongoing success of the series. Following closely behind at the third position is Detective Pikachu Returns, the latest exclusive for the Nintendo Switch.
The Top Ten
The rest of the top ten remains relatively consistent with the previous weeks. Mortal Kombat 1 experienced the biggest drop, falling six spots to No. 8 after a 38% decrease in sales. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Hogwarts Legacy round out the top five, while Minecraft for the Nintendo Switch and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom dropped to number 9 and number 10, respectively. It’s worth noting that this marks the lowest rank for the latest Zelda title and sales have seen a 10% decline.
Non-Nintendo Titles on the Rise
Non-Nintendo Switch titles, specifically Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, have seen an improvement in their ranking. The former jumped three spots to claim the 6th place, while the latter climbed one spot to reach number 7.
Surprising Sales Surges
Discounted prices led to some unexpected gains on the chart. Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion saw a staggering 875% increase in sales, making it the biggest winner of the week. Racing titles F1 23 and Need for Speed: Unbound also made a comeback thanks to sales promotions. Additionally, EA’s co-op platformer, It Takes Two, benefited from special pricing and secured a spot in the top 40 for the week.
The highly anticipated launch of Forza Motorsport, exclusively on the Xbox console, is reflected in the chart. With the userbase slowly growing in the UK, it will be interesting to see its impact on the rankings in the coming weeks.
